In Roxy’s Top Ten MUST HAVE Tools to Running a Successful Online Business, I will discuss what I use across all of my websites. We live in a time where it is super easy to start an online business. No matter how easy it is, if you are just starting out like I am, it can be scary. What do you need to do to get your business up and running?
1) A domain and web host
The number one tool on Roxy’s Top Ten MUST HAVE Tools to Running a Successful Online Business list is a domain and web hosting. This is crucial to any business. A domain is where people will go to visit you online. I highly recommend Bluehost. They have excellent customer service and reasonable prices. It will cost you money, so be prepared to have a credit or debit card handy when you go to purchase any web hosting or domains.
Once you buy your hosting package, I highly recommend installing WordPress to build your website. WordPress is open source software, which makes it easy for developers to create themes and plugins. That said, there are thousands of themes and plugins to choose from to enhance your site.
3) Yoast SEO
This is a must have for any business. It is a free WordPress plugin, but the plugin website offers a premium version starting at $69 for one site. For most people, I think the free version is enough as it offers the necessary features needed to boost your view on Google.
4) WP E-Store
If you offer products of any kind, you need WP E-store. I have tried other e-commerce stores such as Woocommerce and Paypal, and find that WP E-store is the easiest to set up. For $49.95, this product comes with all kinds of goodies. It is easy to install and set up. You have options to sell physical as well as digital items. There are all sorts of shortcodes for this product as well that you will obtain access to once you purchase it. Honestly, my only regret with this plugin so far is not finding it sooner!
There are many E-mail marketing apps out there, but I have been with Mailchimp for years, and so far it has served me well. It is cheap and easy to use. My only qualm with it, though, is that there is a delay with AOL users. It can sometimes take up to 24 hours for AOL users to receive notifications, so keep that in mind when planning your newsletters.
6) WordPress File Upload
Another must have tool is WordPress File Upload. This is especially useful if you want to upload forms (rather than embed them) onto your site. You can also upload pdf files and word document files with WordPress File Upload. I use this all the time for my church’s website.
7) WPBakery Visual Composer
This is absolutely a MUST HAVE. I used this amazing visual composer plugin to build Quillity Author Services. This plugin is packed with features from simple text boxes, to adding a section for your team like I did on the home page of this website.
8) Mailchimp for WordPress
This is different from the official MailChimp website. This is a WordPress plugin that offers a free and premium version. This lets you create sign up forms easily on your site while linking to your mailchimp.com account.
Jetpack is a powerful tool that connects your site to wordpress.com. It has features that enhance the performance of your site from engagement to writing. It is a worthwhile tool to install.
The number 10 item on Roxy’s Top Ten Must Have Tools to Running a Successful Online Business is Cleantalk. Every website needs a good and reliable anti-spam tool. I believe that Cleantalk is it. Since installing it on my websites, I have not had any issues with spam. In the past, I used to get hundreds of spambots and spam comments. Now I am lucky if I get any.
There you have it, folks! Those are my top ten MUST HAVE tools to running a successful online business.
